Notice: Food Benefits Will Be Reduced Starting November 1, 2013

In April 2009, a law called The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 raised Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to help people affected by the recession. The increased benefits provided by this law expire. Everyone receiving food benefits will receive a letter from DSHS in October to inform them of their monthly benefits for November. Basic Food Elderly Interview Waiver

Bag of FoodStarting with August 2013 applications and eligibility reviews, many elderly households without earnings will not need an interview for Basic Food benefits.  Washington was granted a demonstration project to test how waiving the interview requirement for Basic Food could improve benefit  access to seniors age 60+.
